Mirrors

How mirrors work wonders in your home
In addition to doing what they are supposed to do – show you your reflection and tell you how you’re looking at that particular moment, mirrors can do wonders as space enhancers.Mirrors provide the illusion of space: If you are faced with a space constraint in your home, make liberal use of mirrors. Visually, they will open up the space. Small living rooms and bedrooms appear considerably larger if you devote one entire wall to mirrors. The visual duplication of space will make the room look much bigger than it actually is.
Mirrors reflect light and color: In case your space is particularly dark with say, just one window to let in the natural light, place a mirror just opposite the window. The mirror reflects the light and your room becomes brighter in an instant. The same technique works with an artificial light source as well. If you can put a mirror on your ceiling you can give a stunning lighting effect to your room.
Mirrors open up narrow passages: If your problem is a rather narrow passage at the entrance or anywhere else in your home, you can make it look much larger with the use of mirrors. Hang mirrors on both walls facing each other, the space looks much wider and spacious than it actually is. Now you won’t ever feel the passage closing in on you. If you want to make hallway look longer, put up a mirror at the end of the hallway.
Mirrors look wonderful as pieces of décor: Mirrors look spectacular as wall decor. For a wonderful effect, you can make a collage of different shapes and sizes mirrors and put it up on a focal wall or behind a sofa instead of a conventional painting. Alternately, you can put up a mirror in conjunction with other pieces of décor to create a really unique wall arrangement. Or you can put photographs around one large mirror. This looks fantastic as well.
Mirrors complete your bathroom and dressing area: No bathroom is complete without at least mirror. Everyone uses one for shaving or to apply makeup etc but a large bathroom mirror can also add a look of increased space and lighting to a small area. You can place one facing the bathtub or on the door in addition to the one about the basin. These days magnifying mirrors are also being increasingly used in bathrooms.
Whether your dressing area is in your bedroom or you’re lucky enough to have a separate dressing room, mirrors are a vital element of this space. You can use one large mirror and several smaller ones like cosmetic mirrors and magnifying mirrors to really take a good and close look at yourself.
Mirrors brighten up your kitchen: Creative usage of mirrors in the kitchen can make the area look bigger and brighter. If your little ones like to help you in the kitchen, a mirror over the stove, allows your child to stay at a safe distance and yet see what’s going on.
Mirrors add a special touch to your furniture: Your coffee table will look out of this world if you replace the top with a mirror. Any thing placed on gets reflected in the mirror adding color and texture. An attractive table or console with a decorative mirror on top placed at the entrance of your home looks very welcoming. This is also where you get a last glimpse of yourself as you step out of the house. Decorative mirrors, added behind book cases make them look really attractive
If used in an imaginative way, mirrors can really add glitz and glamour to your home. One thing that you need to keep in mind though while using mirrors is that mirrors should only duplicate beautiful and pleasant things. This could be a vase of fresh flowers, a lovely painting or nature in all its glory. No one wants to see 2 baskets of dirty laundry
